smart home of the future
Context
The theme “What if…?” of the 2015 Dutch Design Week inspired Eneco, a Dutch energy supplier, to set up the Smart Home Day. 4 teams of design students were challenged to imagine the future smart home. Eneco wishes for Toon, a smart home thermostat to be the central figure in this future. The device regulates home temperature, communicates energy usage, connects with other smart home devices, and compares energy usuage within the connected community. Over 5 days the teams worked on designing for the question “What is the future of Toon?”
