concept
I researched the works of Marc Hendricks whose work ‘My way to heaven’ stood there. I was happy to see that he is also a recycling artists.
I saw that the work of Dirk Debaecke titled ‘Object in hout’ and Jan Kets’ work titled ‘De heidewerkers’ were in the neighbourhood.
The juxtaposition of these 3 works gave rise to the concept I’m presenting here.

The concept is titled ‘3 op reis’. It shows three figures around the pedestal. Two are on top of the pedestal while one of them is still on the ground.
The three figures are meant to represent the three figures in ‘De heidewerkers’.
The figure on the ground is called ‘Ground Man’. As an ode to the work of Jan Kets, this figure is made from steel and concrete.
The figure on top of the pedestal on hands and knees is called ‘Helping Man’. As an ode to Dirk Debaecke this figure is made from burnt wood.
The figure standing on top of the pedestal with a raised leg is called ‘Climbing Man’. As an ode to Dirk Debaecke this figure is made from stained wood. (If possible I will try to make this figure using found wood as an ode to Marc Hendricks’ recycled art practice; which also fits with my own practice).
All three figures are attempting to follow in the footsteps of Marc Hendricks; by climbing up the ladder. But the ladder is missing. My concept is an ode to the works that came before me. It is an attempt at learning from and appreciating the techniques of other artists.
